The Royal Decree that regulates workshop activity in Spain establishes very clear obligations to protect you as a consumer. These are the most important ones:
Right to a Written Estimate
Before starting any repair, you have the right to demand a detailed written estimate. This document is binding for the shop during its validity period.
Right to a Detailed Invoice
Once the work is completed, the invoice must itemize all operations: parts replaced, labor hours, taxes applied, etc. A generic invoice is not acceptable.
Right to Repair Warranty
Every repair has a legal warranty. At minimum, it is 3 months or 2,000 kilometers. If the failure reappears during that period, the shop must repair it again at no cost to you.
Right to Replaced Parts
You have the right to receive the parts or components that have been removed from your vehicle during the repair.

The repair shop has a «lien right», but it is not absolute. They cannot use it to force payment of an invoice that is incorrect, inflated, or for unauthorized work. If you are in this situation, it is a pressure tactic that we can legally combat.
